What to expect
Initial Appointment
First-time patients can expect the initial appointment and consultation to last approximately 45 minutes to an hour. You will be welcomed and asked to complete patient forms, if you have not already done so. For your convenience, download the necessary new patient forms and complete them prior to arriving for your appointment.
Your initial visit will include consultation around your goals, concerns, health related problems and possible treatment options. This ensures we design a treatment plan that meets your expectations. The visit will include a complete chiropractic examination, looking at posture and movement patterns, and may include neurological, orthopedic and other physical tests. Nothing will be done without your expressed consent.
Depending upon your examination results, x-rays may be ordered. The majority of patients do not require this.
Treatment
You have a say in the type and style of treatment you receive. Treatments may include spinal and extremity adjustments, physical therapy and soft tissue massage techniques. We will also discuss ways for you to assist in your healing at home. This may include the application of ice or heat, establishing proper ergonomics and postures or exercises and stretches to speed healing and prevent reoccurence. Treatment may involve partnering with other specialties: your primary care physician, physical therapists, orthopedists or neurologists, for example.

Payment Options
Insurance coverage
Shepherd Chiropractic accepts most forms of insurance. However, it is recommended that you verify coverage levels and copayments with your insurance company prior to making an appointment. Once your insurance information is on file, the necessary paperwork will be submitted on your behalf to ensure your claim is handled properly.
Other insurance coverage
If you have coverage through an insurance company we do not recognize, you have the option of paying for your visit by cash or credit and submitting a Shepherd Chiropractic to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Cash, check or credit
For your convenience, cash, check, VISA and MasterCard are accepted. Credit card transactions are processed over secure electronic connection on the day of service. Returned checks submitted for payment will be subject to a $30 return check fee.
Health savings accounts
We accept health savings account debit cards for payment of services.
"Dr. Bob" Shepherd
I graduated in 1991 from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Bloomington, MN, and received my BA from Luther College in Decorah, IA. I was a gymnastic coach for over 12 years after competing myself in gymnastics and diving. I was an AAU tumbling champion for the State of Iowa and was lucky enough to have coached two All-Americas (top 6).
In addition to my doctorate in chiropractic, I am a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (1994) and am also certified in acupuncture. In 1998, I completed a 12-month certification in whiplash and spinal trauma, which concentrated on the treatment of car accident injuries.
I worked for over two years on the State of Minnesota Peer Review Committee, chosen from the state's chiropractors by the Minnesota Chiropractic Board of Examiners.
In 1997, I worked on a study with The Berman Center for Clinical Research and Abbott Northwestern Hospital comparing the efficacy of chiropractic treatment versus anti-hypertensive medications in the treatment of patients with hypertension.
Finally, I was honored to be chosen by Minnesota Monthly magazine as one of Minnesota’s Top Chiropractors for 2013, 2014 and 2016.
"I feel chiropractic care is an amazing tool to assist the body in healing. I use a combination of chiropractic and home exercise to help you meet your goals, and find ways to reduce the mechanical stresses on your joints and posture in order to decrease the likelihood of your condition returning."
